The Pharmaceutical development wing of R&D is proficient in delivering innovative, critical, novel and patentable Branded and Unbranded formulations. Equipped with a modern laboratory, it develops dosage forms like:
1. Conventional Dosage form (Tablet, Capsule-Hard and Soft gel, Pellets, Liquid, Cream, Ointment )
2. Critical Conventional Dosage (Tablet- Surface active, Bi-layer Tablets- Atorvastatin, Clopidogrel, Naproxen Gel)
3. Novel Drug delivery System (Micro-emulsion, Orodispersible, Mouth Dissolving Tablets, Solid Dispersion, Controlled Release Formulation)
Novel Drug Delivery System (NDDS) forms a major part of Formulation R&D efforts, which has resulted in owning of international patents which have been commercialized.
Highlights of Formulation R&D
-
Cyclosporine Microemulsion Novel Drug Delivery System granted patent in about 20 countries including US and Europe
-
Lamotrigine Mouth Dissolving tablets patented internationally and India
-
Alphalog Tablets (alpha ketoanalogue), a novel formulation has been developed indigenously for chronic kidney disease

The DSIR approved R&D set up at Ankleshwar focuses on the fermentation research activities. The biotech research activities are focused on biopharmaceuticals like Oncology, Immunosuppresants and
anti-infectives.
A modern micro-biology laboratory and Pilot plant for the scale-up of upstream processing form part of the infrastructure of R&D.
The primary activity of the R&D set up is strain improvement to achieve higher yields of biopharmaceuticals. Strain improvement involves mutation of wild strains, selection of mutants by random and rational screening.
Significant yield improvements have been achieved in existing products as a result of strain improvements. |
|
Other activities at R&D Process optimization for existing products- Optimization of media, optimization of parameters.
Scale up from laboratory scale to pilot scale and further on to commercial scale. |
