Haloperidol is a butyrophenone-derivative antipsychotic with actions similar to the piperazine-derivative phenothiazines. Haloperidol decanoate is a long-acting form of haloperidol. The precise mechanism of action is unclear but it appears to inhibit the ascending reticular system, possibly through the caudate nucleus.
